For the second straight year, the SFIC Basketball Festival will be televised to Verizon FiOS customers in New Jersey. Verizon’s FiOS 1 channel, in conjunction with The Star-Ledger, will tape three girls basketball games on Saturday, January 8 at Paramus Catholic High School and four boys basketball games from Kean University on Sunday, January 9. The games will air at various times between Wednesday, January 12 and Sunday, January, 16. Check your local listings.
The eighth annual Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children Basketball Festival features perhaps the best match-ups in tournament history. On the girls’ side, Holy Angels will face Saint Anthony, Paramus Catholic hosts Roselle Catholic, and Immaculate Heart Academy takes on Mount Saint Dominic Academy. For the boys, Seton Hall Prep battles Hudson Catholic, St. Patrick faces St. Benedict’s Prep in a highly anticipated showdown of two of the best teams in the country, Saint Peter’s Prep plays Trenton Catholic Academy, and Coach Bob Hurley continues his march to 1,000 career victories with a game against St. Joseph of Montvale.
“Having Verizon FiOS televise our coverage of the SFIC Basketball Festival is very important because not only does it inform the general public about the impact that the Scholarship Fund provides to the community, but ticket sales and sponsorships help raise money for student partial-tuition scholarships” says Bill Fitzpatrick, an SFIC Trustee and the Event Director.
The Scholarship Fund for Inner City Children is a non-profit organization that through means of donations, fundraisers, charity events and activities provides children in need the opportunity for a quality, values-based education in a safe environment. The Fund provides partial tuition scholarships to economically disadvantaged children in grades K to 12 attending private and parochial schools within Bergen, Essex, Hudson and Union county. Scholarship awards are based on financial need without regard to race, religion or ethnicity. In its history, the SFIC has generated over $30 million partial tuition scholarships to over 40,000 inner city students which have led to 100% of recipients graduating high school and 97 % who then pursue higher education.
